SVP Calgary constantly strives to become more
effective grant-makers. As such, we are revising our grant cycle process to
be more proactive towards the most pressing needs of children and youth in
our community.
Our old grant cycle process:
In the past, Social Ventures Partners Calgary invited any non-profit working
in the areas of children, youth and education to submit a two-page Letter of
Intent (LOI) to apply for funding. We have typically received between 40 and 70
such LOIs during a grant cycle. Prior to reviewing these LOIs, our
Investment Committee would first take part in a series of education sessions
to learn about the emerging social issues facing Calgary's children and
youth. They would then turn their attention to the LOIs and determine a
short list of applicants to invite to submit full grant applications. Once
these full applications were reviewed, the list was narrowed even further as
the Committee decided which applicants to conduct site visits with. After
the site visit phase, the Committee determined which applicant would become
our newest Investee.
Our new grant cycle process:
Instead of inviting all non-profits serving children and youth in the area
of education to submit an LOI, we will now be using a more focused approach.
During their education sessions the Investment Committee will not only
endeavor to identify the emerging social issues relating to Calgary's
children and youth, but also which local agencies are currently addressing
those issues. Our invitations to submit LOIs will be limited to this select
group of agencies. The rest of our grant cycle process will continue as
before.
Visit our website regularly to find the most up-to-date information on what
specific issue area our funding will focus on.
We expect to determine
this issue area by early November. We also encourage you to send us a
brief email describing your agency and the programs you provide for children
and youth in Calgary. If we know about your agency, we can determine whether
it fits with our specific issue area.
