CONNECTIONS COUNSELLING provides unique long-term support to parents with a developmental disability and their children in Calgary.  The primary focus is in-home parenting educations and support, nurturing early childhood development by assisting parents with positive parenting skills.  Through counseling and one-on-one support, Connections provides these families with a healthy start in life.  SVP Calgary funds will go towards directly supporting core programs and services as well as marketing and fund development.  Learn more at www.connectionscounselling.ab.ca

BROWN BAGGING FOR CALGARY'S KIDS SOCIETY provides children and youth in disadvantaged circumstances with basic life essentials such as food and clothing, as well as other tools to encourage healthy alternative decisions and wise choices in life.  This includes children or youth living on the street or children and youth in schools without access to nutritional resources and other life necessities.  SVP Calgary funds currently support the implementation of a strategic communication plan.  Learn more at www.brownbaggingit.org

CALGARY URBAN VIBE is Calgary’s only one-stop web portal for youth by youth and allows teens to share information, support learning and create a greater sense of community among youth.  The program has three primary objectives: to connect youth to youth; connect youth to resources and opportunities; and, to give youth a greater voice in Calgary.  Calgary Urban Vibe gives teens a sense of community connectedness, thereby encouraging them to make healthier choices and acquire skills and experiences to succeed in the future.  SVP Calgary funds currently support the salary of Urban Vibe's Program Co-ordinator.  Learn more at www.calgaryurbanvibe.ca

SOUPERSTARS - COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROGRAM OF CALGARY teaches elementary school students how to shop economically for food and to safely prepare nutritious meals.  The program also teaches the children mealtime etiquette and seeks to restore family connections by encouraging children to talk over meals with parents and siblings.  SVP Calgary funds currently support the operation of the Souperstars program.  Learn more at www.communitykitchenprogram.com

FRIENDS OF SENIORS FOUNDATION fosters friendships between teens and seniors to enhance their personal strengths and quality of life by providing intergenerational programs and resources.  The program matches youths 12 to 18 years of age with seniors aged 54 to 104 in care centres and Alzheimer facilities throughout Calgary.  Together they learn about one another through personal visits and activities.  The activities include games, storytelling, reading, crafts and the writing of the senior’s biography.  SVP Calgary currently funds new and existing programs and provides organizational support.  Learn more at www.friendsofseniors.org

CALGARY READS SOCIETY works to improve the confidence and ability of struggling young readers while promoting literacy as a benefit to the community.  Their Volunteer Tutor Program is an early literacy initiative that recruits, trains and matches volunteer tutors with struggling readers in grades one and two.  Tutors are trained to use a proven, consistent 10-step program, designed to improve student’s reading and writing abilities.  Learn more at www.calgaryreads.comGraduated in 2006 with cumulative grants of $150,000 over 4 years.
 
SERVANTS ANONYMOUS SOCIETY provides programming for women ages 16-29, who have been involved in, or are at risk of involvement in the sex trade.  Their mission is to provide ongoing support, hope and wholeness to female youth that have been victims of sexual exploitation.  Learn more at www.servantsanon.comGraduated in 2006 with cumulative grants of $180,000 over 4 years.
 
CALGARY BRIDGE FOUNDATION FOR YOUTH assists new immigrant youth in overcoming language and cultural barriers that may restrict their access and contribution to society, and to offer them a secure environment in which to develop cross-cultural understanding.  Learn more at www.calgarybridgefoundation.comGraduated in 2006 with cumulative grants of $130,000 over 4 years.
 
TEAM LEADERSHIP is a student-directed program that builds the capacity of high school students with leadership potential.  By providing these students with the support and tools they need, T.E.A.M. empowers them to affect positive social change in their school and surrounding community.  With the guidance of a few caring adults, the students learn how to identify areas of concern for their peers and then how to design and implement appropriate solutions. Graduated in 2006 with cumulative grants of $40,000 over 3 years.
 
CUPS One World Child Development Centre is an early intervention education centre that provides opportunities for children and parents to develop in a nurturing environment. The children receive care from well-qualified staff that stimulates their early childhood development and the parents increase their skills and enhance the home environment of the child and family.  One World offers preschool, full day kindergarten, parent education, health care, and social services - all identified as key areas for action with at-risk children and families.  Learn more at www.cupshealthcentre.com/oneworld.htm Graduated in 2005 with cumulative grants of $130,000 over 4 years.
 
FAMILIES MATTER fosters resilience in parents and children by providing families with education and support, and by promoting community understanding of parenting issues through public awareness and advocacy.  Families Matter provides a broad spectrum of services including parenting resources and courses, in-home family support, early childhood development, and post-partum support.  Learn more at www.familiesmatter.caGraduated in 2003 with cumulative grants of $145,000 over 3 years.
 
THE HERA SOCIETY provides therapeutic programming to help young girls and their families who are experiencing difficulties and are in crisis.  Hera provides services to adolescent girls who are deemed to be at-risk of street activity (prostitution and drugs).  Learn more at www.heracalgary.orgGraduated in 2003 with cumulative grants of $78,650 over 3 years.
