Frequently Asked Questions

Why join SVP Calgary vs. giving directly to an organization?

In one word, Leverage. When you join SVP Calgary, you become part of an organization with other committed and caring citizens.

  • Your donation contributes to the much larger sum of the entire group, which allows us to give much higher amounts.

Your time volunteering is added to all other time from the group. And your volunteering time with non-profits is focused on building the right capacity, a strong foundation, that will allow non-profits to become much more efficient and achieve better outcomes and impact.

  • You’ll have the opportunity to get involved with multiple organizations in various capacities that are driving towards similar goals for our community
What if I don’t come from the business world? Will I really have something to offer?
Of course. Everyone at SVP Calgary has something to offer and something to learn. All projects we work on with our non-profit Investees have team leads that are experts in the space. Other team members can have an interest and desire to learn and be part of the team. We’ve also seen from experience, that multidisciplinary teams can be more innovative and creative, so we welcome diversity of backgrounds and experiences.
I love the model but can’t guarantee I’m going to have the time. Should I still consider joining?
Absolutely. The beauty of SVP Calgary is that people can be involved as much or as little as they want. We understand that life ebbs and flows and your ability to volunteer or attend any meetings will fluctuate. If you know you won’t be able to volunteer your time at all, you can always become a donor.
Is your donation tax deductible?
Yes. SVP is a registered charity so 100 percent of your donation is eligible for a tax receipt.
How much is the required contribution for partners?
Partners have to pay a minimum of $5,000 annually or if you are under the age of 35, $2,500.
What are the payment options?
SVP partners can pay monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually. We work with our partners to find the most suitable options for you.
How long do I have to commit to be a partner?
SVP partnerships renew on an annual basis. We ask our partners that once they commit that they follow through for the year as this affects SVP’s annual budgeting process and ultimately how much money we can give back to the non-profits that we invest in.
Once I make my donation, what happens?
Once you become a partner of SVP, we provide you with an onboarding session. This will allow you to learn more about our structure, our programs and how to get involved. We will also learn what interests you and what skills you have so that we can effectively match you up for projects either within SVP or with one of our non-profit Investments.
