Philanthropy Lab

Introducing The Philanthropy Lab at Social Venture Partners Calgary

We are very excited to be launching the Philanthropy Lab at Social Venture Partners Calgary. While SVP Calgary is celebrating our 20th year supporting Calgary non-profits, the Philanthropy Lab is a new pathway to impact that we are introducing.
The Philanthropy Lab is a new curated education curriculum that prepares our Partners to be most impactful with their volunteer time.

Course Overview

The Philanthropy Lab is the partner engagement and professional development arm of SVP Calgary. By providing our high-skill volunteers with insight into the fundamentals of non-profit organizations, including their key opportunities and challenges, we ensure our volunteers’ time and efforts are maximized. Within the Philanthropy Lab is our Non-Profit Fundamentals Program (NPFP) Course. The first NPFP course explores an introduction to non-profits, board governance, funding alternatives and risk management. The Philanthropy Lab offers ongoing partner education and engagement for our volunteers in the areas of system change, social innovation, diversity, equity, inclusion, revenue, and diversification.

This new training opportunity at SVP Calgary is ideal for current and new partners looking to directly support their local community and gain a better understanding of the non-profit sector.

The fundamentals course takes place over a 7 week period for a total of eight hours. This course is a combination of self-directed learning on an educational platform, and live sessions led by an instructor (for now, virtually).

The Philanthropy Lab’s first cohort will be starting on October 21st, 2021.
